“The music industry seems to love labeling things,” reflects Matt Hagmann, guitarist/vocalist of the long-surviving San Francisco based alternative rock band. Comprised of Brad and Matt Hagmann (brothers), Chris Isaacs and Jonathan McMaster, Blood and Water has spent the last several years writing and recording LPs, touring the country, and studying the music industry. “Merch sales, live shows, scenes… music today feels so smashed into a box,” explains frontman Brad Hagmann. “One of the most exciting things about being on stage is the fact that each song takes on a new identity and meaning with each performance. It’s unpredictable. It’s a chance to communicate exactly how I’m feeling with the audience each night, regardless of the actual set-list.”
If anything, Blood and Water aims to be a band labeled and defined by honesty.
Over the course of their growing career, Blood and Water has managed to establish themselves as an up-and-coming, hard working band on the scene -completing 3 full US tours in the past year alone. “Blood and Water defy all classifications for what a rock band “should” sound like and shake their finger at critics with their unflinchingly catchy alt rock choruses,” notes Brandon Jones (president of Indie Vision Music), who dubbed their most recent LP In Character, “Album Of The Year” for 2010. “This band has a knack for writing heartfelt anthems about life, love and loss.”
With new music on the way, a committed touring schedule, and a desire to break the mold, it seems Blood and Water is poised for a breakthrough. “SloSpeak has made it clear that they’re willing to push the boundaries of the industry to reach their goals,” says Matt Hagmann. “Now it’s our job to make something special.”
